Tonight is when we find out how much of a series we have. A Jazz win goes a long way toward them forgetting about the two losses in San Antonio.
1. Song: Fight For Your Right by The Beastie Boys
“Fight For Your Right” is to the Beastie Boys what “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay” was for Otis Redding. A big hit that wasn’t like anything else they did. In fact, they did it as a joke and it became the song they were widely known for. To quote the late Adam “MCA” Yauch:
So, I guess that the story could have a couple of possible morals. One might be, “Be careful of what you make fun of or you might become it.”
2. Key Match Up: Mind Over Matter
This is a battle of their mental disposition versus our mental disposition. The Jazz have to fight the feeling that they are done. The Spurs have to fight the feeling that they have won this series. As of right now, I like our chances better than I like theirs. However, the Nuggets won tonight in dominating fashion and that should tell us something. Home teams play different. The Jazz are one of those kind of teams too.
Expect a fight. As in, expect the Jazz to put up a fight.
3. Keeping An Eye On: Paul Millsap
If the Jazz are going to change the tone of this series, I think it will be Paul Millsap that has to do it. He’s the player on the Jazz that has the potential to dominate his match up. Al Jefferson and Devin Harris can play better, but they aren’t going to abuse Tim and Tony. Paul Millsap has the potential to abuse Boris Diaw and his back ups.
Millsap needs to have a 30 and 16 type of game for the Jazz today.
4. Bold Prediction: Spurs By 8 Thanks To Manu
I think this is the game that Manu gets his groove back. He’s just off so far. His perimeter shots haven’t been falling and his passes aren’t finding their destinations. And he’s not getting to the line. I think Manu is going to buckle down and play Manu’s kind of ball game. Physical.
Mark these words. Manu will get knocked around and we’ll be better for it.
